We took many Food Photos, shown
below. We have dinner menus,
lunch & breakfast menus, and
midnight buffet photos, as well. We enjoyed our cruise, and much of the dining room food (pastas,
risottos, fish, ice cream, & sorbet were very good), & especially enjoyed the
service from the waiters, though there were occasional communication problems,
which were resolved (& improved) with patience.
When we boarded the ship, we noted in the daily program (in our stateroom) that
a "welcome snack" was provided in the La Bistrot Cafeteria and in the Pizzeria
at the La Pergola (grill), both on deck 11. The "welcome snack" was
burgers, hot dogs, green olives with pits, chopped red cabbage, & sliced
tomatoes in the outside grill area, & minestrone soup, lasagna, stew size beef
chunks, fish, Brussels sprouts in the La Bistrot Cafeteria. The hamburgers
turned out to be the best bet. The "welcome snack" food
provided was the worst we have ever had on a cruise, so we were going to opt for
the pizza, but we found after asking the La Bistrot Maitre'D & others that the
Pizzeria was not offered & that it was an error in the daily program.
Though we were hoping for the pizza at the time, we discovered later that
the pizza was not very good either. However we found the next day
that for lunch,
pasta was prepared in the La Pergola (grill area) in a pan as
you watched, and we felt it was usually very good. The food
improved somewhat in the La Bistrot Cafeteria in the next days, but we felt the
dining room lunch food was much better, so, even though we usually ate
more often on cruises in the buffet area, we ate most of our lunches in the
dining rooms (mostly the L'Ippocampo restaurant), except for a bite of the
freshly prepared pasta before we went down to lunch. For lunch, the La
Bistrot Cafeteria only had coffee, hot water with tea bags, ice water (no ice
tea or lemonade), & milk to drink, & only had 2 juices offered for
breakfast,
often which did not include orange juice, & in addition, had
a pill cup sized
plastic cup to drink from. When I asked the attendant about the size
of the cup, he offered "the large cup", which was a small foam coffee cup.
The size of the cups in the La Bistrot Cafeteria did not change for the length
of the cruise, though the attendant said larger cups were on order. Some
resolution for the ice tea & orange juice may be on the next cruises, along
with a few other welcome additions.
The
La Pergola (grill) offered Pizza on one side, & hamburger & hot dogs on the
other with either grilled thin slices of chicken or beef each day & did not vary
much otherwise as the photos will show. Considerable fresh fruit was
provided during the cruise, though presentation could be improved. The La
Bistrot Cafeteria had a carving station each day, once even a whole baby pig.
The desserts generally need improvement (except ice cream & sorbet).
