Here are the photos of the
Galaxy Stateroom Pole. Fortunately, this was not our stateroom. In
our discussion with several Celebrity people on the Galaxy, we decided there
must be about 8 or so staterooms on Plaza Deck with poles, 3 to 4 on each
side. We only actually saw two, but have no reason to doubt. None of
these poles are shown in the brochure.
Note, the bed is facing side to side instead of end
to end. This might require someone crawl over to occupy the far side of the bed.
This may pose a problem for some who are less physically able. Also, in an
inside stateroom, it is pitch dark when the lights are out. To go to the
bathroom late at night, the individual on the far side of the bed might need to
crawl over the other person (the less able problem) and hope they did not break
their nose or stub a toe on the pole, etc. Hopefully, they would keep a light or
nightlight on, though some can't sleep with any light on. Identification of
these rooms by Celebrity is the right course of action with possibility a price
reduction, as outside obstructed view rooms are handled.
We are wondering whether the poles extend through all
the floors going up? We also wonder if the sister ships Century and
Mercury have the same poles? Since it is almost a foot wide, column
might be a better name than pole.
In our discussions with the couple who had this pole:
They said the Galaxy Purser's desk told them they have had
these complaints before.
Galaxy gave them a bottle of champagne and a bowl of fruit (fruit can be ordered
as room service item), and the couple did not feel this was an equitable
arrangement.
They felt Celebrity should treat these staterooms the same way they treat
obstructed view outside staterooms...identify them and reduce price.

In our discussion with Celebrity (we talked to several
agents and Customer Relations):
Those with which we talked were not aware of the
staterooms with poles. One looked at the photos on this page.
If you booked a guaranty inside room at that level (cat.11) or below, you might
get a stateroom with a pole in it.
If you booked a specific stateroom, and you asked them
whether there was a pole, they would tell you. Of course they did not tell
the couple who had this room, as I suppose they did not know to ask, and of
course all the agents we spoke to did not know they exist, so the ones I did not
talk with will probably say they are not aware of any poles.
